In 2009, reporting of child sexual abuse became mandatory for Western Australian school teachers. One of the system requirements is that all staff in Catholic schools attend training regarding mandatory reporting of child sexual abuse.
Training sessions lay out the responsibilities, penalties and reporting requirements under the new legislation. The training also covers Catholic Education procedures and how these link to the new legislation and to other forms of child abuse.
The training sessions are offered centrally at CEWA in Leederville. Check the CEWA professional learning portal for scheduled training. Sessions are also offered in regional centres according to need.
School staff requiring information regarding reporting procedures for mandatory reporters in Catholic schools may contact the Mandatory Reporting Consultant for support.
