Majella Catholic Primary School - A Case for Change at Majella

In 2011 the staff of Majella Catholic Primary School engaged in significant discussion of school data, and identified a need to reverse a general trend of downward achievement in literacy outcomes of all students.

As a result of this data analysis and discussion, the staff initiated changes that drove a comprehensive, collaborative educational reform agenda through increased engagement and participation of members throughout the school community. The reforms were successful in fundamentally transforming the school’s pedagogical philosophy.

The staff at Majella researched approaches that would best suit the unique needs and diverse community of learners at the school. The corner stone of the initiative since its introduction has been a model of coaching and feedback focused on the implementation of an explicit model of teaching.

The success of the initiative has been demonstrated in improved NAPLAN and PIPS assessment results, with students achieving at or above the mean for similar schools in 2014.
