Tournament of Minds

A team of students from St John’s School in Scarborough recently travelled to Sydney to take part in the Australasian Pacific Tournament of Minds finals, and returned home as champions of the primary Maths Engineering discipline.

Seven students from Year 5 and 6 made up the team, who, after significant learning with Team Facilitator Tricia Welsh and a support crew of parents, participated in a program of problem-solving challenges.

The St John’s students faced tough competition with groups from around Australia, as well as New Zealand, Hong Kong and Thailand taking part, but their skill and training in preparation paid off.

Tournament of Minds is intended to offer young people opportunities to be challenged and develop problem-solving skills, while encouraging collaboration and experimentation.

Congratulations to the students, school staff and parents involved on a very impressive achievement!
