PALS Award for Xavier Catholic School

The school's ‘Sharing the Dream’ project received the Runner Up Award in the Education category of the 2012 PALS Awards.

Hon. Peter Collier, Minister for Education and Indigenous Affairs presented the 2012 PALS Award on Tuesday 27 November.

The ongoing ‘Sharing the Dream’ project has been running for the past few years and has become an integral part of the school. This year, the school updated its resources to assist students to learn about Aboriginal culture and history and to nurture relationships between students.

The whole-of-school project incorporated development for both students and teachers and linked learning about Aboriginal history and culture to different learning areas in each year group.

The number of Aboriginal students at Xavier Catholic School is small but students are often able to share knowledge and experiences with the classes and teachers. The projects have given them a sense of appreciation and respect for different cultures, traditions and backgrounds.

The PALS Program is a State Government funded initiative based on the core attributes of Partnership, Acceptance, Learning and Sharing and encourages young Western Australians to develop projects that promote and advance reconciliation.
