Majella Catholic Primary School

Christmas 2012 came early for students at Majella Catholic Primary School in Balga when every student received three books of their choice.

The school has become a member of the Books in Home program which provides free books to schools around Australia and New Zealand to promote a love of reading.

Next year, each student will be able to choose nine books, three each in Terms 1, 2 and 4 and the school library will receive 144, more than 1,800 books for the school. The $20,000 sponsorship of the program at the school has been provided by Mainfreight Australia, a New Zealand based company, which is a major corporate supporter of Books in Homes.

A presentation ceremony at Majella was attended by Jesse Gray-Morgan of Mainfreight and children’s author and book illustrator Frané Lessac who spoke to the children of they joy books give her and encouraged them to write books themselves.

Principal Lina Bertolini thanked Mainfreight and Books in Home for their generous support for the school and students.
