Better Beginnings Literacy Program

Culture and Arts Minister John Day has announced the launch of a new website for the Better Beginnings Literacy Program. The website aims to provide quality literacy materials to create positive experiences through reading for children and families.

Through the website, families can access free electronic books, videos, and interactive activities for children. and Mr Day believes it is vital for families to support their children’s literacy and learning.

'The start that we give our children in learning to read and write does make a difference – children whose parents read with them have better developed early literacy skills and are better prepared to begin school.'

Better Beginnings is a partnership program developed by the State Library of Western Australia. The state government currently allocates $1.6 million annually in funding to Better Beginnings, which also includes the Royalties for Regions program. Rio Tinto and WA local governments, who are also partners in the program, provide additional funding.

The program aims to raise awareness and promote the value of reading and foster literacy skills in children.
