Gillian O’Shaughnessy, presenter of ABC Local Radio’s Afternoon program, is looking for a Short Story Champion to represent Western Australia. The competition calls for children in Western Australia aged between 8 and 12 to write a 500-word short story and include the word ‘radio’.
The stories need to be submitted by midnight on Sunday 5 August. The stories will be read and recorded for radio and judged on the afternoon program in the following week.
Gillian O’Shaughnessy, children’s author Meg McKinlay, and books editor at the West Australian William Yeoman will judge the stories aired on the show.
The winner of the competition will fly to Melbourne with a parent or guardian to represent WA as the Young Reading Champion at the National Reading Hour in Federation Square.
